My past few months…

4+

After winning the Mental health blog awards last year, some doors have opened for me including a few radio appearances and running a blogging course at the Health and wellbeing college in Ashton.

In terms of my mental health I would say it has been up and down. Good some days and not so good on other days.

This resulted in my absconding from the rehab unit when I get the chance to do so. Being on a section, the police are notified as soon as I leave the unit without leave from the consultant.

This means that the police immediately start to search for me and go to my mum’s house and my sister’s house in Oldham.

Because of the fear of being captured by police and being returned to the unit I usually end up walking around for the whole night or sleep rough. It is difficult and hard to live like this but I usually get returned by the police within two or three days of escaping. The police are quite rough and they usually arrive in a gang of seven or eight.

In other news my blog has been down for a month and a half so I haven’t posted anything but hopefully I will start blogging regularly again.

Due to winning the Blogging award I have been invited to three radio shows to discuss mental health and blogging. My first appearance on radio was quite nerve-racking but once you get into the flow of things it isn’t that difficult.

I have also been running a course for new bloggers which I am proud about as I am passionate about blogging and helping others to start their own blogs. Again I was slightly nervous but it was okay once I got into the flow of it. I am due to run it again at the end of January.

I have also appeared as a guest on a current affairs show on Islam Channel which was difficult, but a good experience.

I have also started to work on my book again and hope to publish it soon.

In terms of being on the unit, I am grateful to the staff at Heathfield House for their patience and support during difficult times. At the moment I only have escorted leave to go out of the unit. I hope some home leave is reinstated soon.

So I have been very productive but at the same time due to going AWOL I have been set back in the process of gradual discharge.

I thank you for reading and seek your prayers and good will.

  2. Congratulations on being invited to speak on three radio shows. That is very impressive! Your insights into mental health and treatment will help many people to understand the reality from the patient’s point of view. I’m sorry you had a set back, but your respect for the staff will carry you a long way.
